Welcome
Families on the RISE, LLC was established by long-time educator Dr. Melanie D. James to empower and educate black families. By focusing on five target areas, our goal is to equip families with the tools they need to rise above the challenges of life and thrive individually and collectively.
About the Founder
Dr. Melanie James is a veteran educator of 24 years. She has served as an elementary school assistant principal, high school math teacher, and part-time college math teacher. She is an alumna of Albany State University (B.A.), the University of Georgia (M.Ed.) and the University of Southern Mississippi (Ph.D.).
Target Areas
Area I: School-Home-Community Connections
The goal for this area is to educate parents on effective parenting skills and ways to become better involved in their children’s lives and education, become aware of outside influences of social media and other platforms, to effectively connect with their children’s schools, and to positively interact with community agencies and partners in regards to their children’s well-being.
Area II: Spiritual Growth
The goal for this area is to help individuals become better students of their time, talent, temple (body), and treasures. We will provide resources for Christian growth in the form of inspirational blogs and thoughts, ideas for spiritual retreats, Bible lessons and outlines, and prayer request submissions.
Area III: Physical and Mental Health
The goal for this area is to educate individuals on the importance of striving for and maintaining good physical and mental health through their diet, exercise and daily activities, mindsets, and stress management.
Area IV: Family Bonding
The goal for this area is to help strengthen families by providing ways for families to bond, including games and activities, family social outings, and help with communication.
Area V: Financial Literacy
The goal for this area is to provide resources for individuals about basic money matters and information on ways to achieve financial stability and prepare for their financial future.
